Botox and Excessive Sweating (hyperhidrosis)
Botox can help with hyperhidrosis, which is a common issue with many individuals. Sweaty armpits can be problematic and interferes with daily activities. This occurs in about 1% of the population. Hyperhidrosis can be so severe that it would require the individual to change outfits several times in a day. Some individuals avoid social contacts secondary to their excessive sweating.
Botox injections temporarily block the chemical signals being released for the nerves the innervate the sweat glands. Therefore, if the sweat glands do not receive the signal, you will not sweat in that area. Botox treatments have proven to be effective in temporarily relieving the excessive sweating. It takes about 3-7 days before the treatment begins working and it may last up to 12 months.
