Consultation and Planning
Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation where Dr. Esmailian will listen to your
aesthetic goals and evaluate your anatomy. He uses advanced imaging technology to show you potential
results and help you visualize your post-operative appearance. This collaborative approach ensures
you and Dr. Esmailian are aligned on your desired outcome before surgery.
During this visit, you'll discuss implant options, incision placement, and any concerns about
recovery or results. Dr. Esmailian will review your medical history, current medications, and any
previous surgeries to ensure you're a suitable candidate.
Incision Options
Dr. Esmailian offers multiple incision techniques, each with distinct advantages:
Inframammary Incision: Placed in the natural crease beneath the breast, this
incision provides excellent visibility and control during implant placement. It is the most commonly
used approach and typically results in the least visible scarring due to the natural fold concealing
the incision.
Periareolar Incision: Placed around the areola (the darker tissue surrounding the
nipple), this incision can be ideal for patients needing concurrent nipple repositioning or those
with naturally darker areolas that camouflage scarring.
Transaxillary Incision: Placed in the armpit, this incision avoids any scarring on
the breast itself. However, it provides less direct visualization during implant placement and is
typically reserved for specific patient scenarios.
Dr. Esmailian will recommend the most appropriate incision based on your anatomy, implant choice, and
aesthetic goals.
The Surgical Procedure
Motiva breast augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes 1-2 hours to
complete. Dr. Esmailian creates a pocket either beneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular placement)
or directly behind the breast tissue (subglandular placement). The choice depends on your anatomy,
implant size, and desired aesthetic outcome.
Submuscular or Dual Plane placement provides additional tissue coverage, reducing the visibility of
implant edges and rippling, particularly in thin-skinned patients. Subglandular placement may be
appropriate for patients with adequate breast tissue and those seeking faster recovery.
Once the pocket is created, Dr. Esmailian carefully positions your Motiva implant, ensuring symmetry
and optimal aesthetic positioning. The incision is then closed with absorbable sutures and skin
adhesive, minimizing visible scarring.
Recovery and Aftercare
Recovery from Motiva breast augmentation follows a predictable timeline:
Days 1-3: You'll experience swelling, bruising, and mild to moderate discomfort.
Pain is typically well-controlled with prescribed medications. You should rest and avoid strenuous
activity.
Week 1: Swelling and bruising begin to subside. Most patients can return to light
activities and desk work. You'll wear a supportive surgical bra to minimize movement and support
healing.
Weeks 2-4: Continued improvement in swelling and bruising. You can gradually resume
normal activities, though heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided.
Weeks 4-6: Most patients can return to full activity, including exercise and sports.
Residual swelling continues to decrease.
3-6 Months: Final results emerge as all swelling resolves and implants settle into
their permanent position. Scars continue to fade and mature over this period.
Individual recovery varies based on implant placement, incision type, and personal healing factors.
