ORANGE COUNTY BREAST AUGMENTATIONAs the most feminine feature of a woman’s body, breasts play a major role in both figure and function. As the years pass, they have a tendency to lose their shape, succumbing to the effects of age and gravity. Additionally, many women inherently have breasts they find unsatisfying due to lack of volume. Whatever the cause may be, breast augmentation surgery is an effective approach to handling these issues, restoring volume and buoyancy when they have been lost, or establishing them for the first time.
ORANGE COUNTY BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY SPECIALIST – DR. FARBOD ESMAILIAN
Breast augmentation, also known as breast implant surgery, has the specific purpose of increasing breast size. While this may sound very direct, there are many factors to consider. The size of the patient’s body can help determine the size of the breast implants. The patient’s anatomy can help determine the profile, or projection, of the implant. There is also the matter of placement, and where the implants will sit within the chest cavity.
Each component must be thoroughly considered before undergoing surgery. For those interested in breast implants, Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Esmailian specializes in breast augmentation, and your initial consultation and examination as well as your personal preference will determine how the surgery is conducted.
In many cases, breast augmentation is simply a way for patients to enhance their image and confidence. In other cases, however, it comes on the coattails of a mastectomy due to breast cancer. In either case, Dr. Esmailian is sensitive to his patients’ needs and will deliver the best breast augmentation Orange County has available.
PLANNING YOUR BREAST AUGMENTATION AT OUR ORANGE COUNTY SURGICAL CENTER
During the planning phase of breast augmentation, there are certain factors to consider and several choices to make including types of breast implants. While some of these depend upon the natural anatomy of your body, others depend upon your personal preference. Dr. Esmailian will carefully consider each factor, consulting with you thoroughly to ensure a total understanding between doctor and patient ensuring he gives you the most exceptional results with breast implants Orange County has available.
THE BREAST AUGMENTATION PROCEDURE
Once the patient has been properly and safely sedated by our board certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Esmailian will begin the procedure. It starts with an incision, placed in one of the three locations mentioned above. This incision has been fully discussed beforehand so the patient understands the location and shape of the scar as well as the expected recovery time.
With the incision made, Dr. Esmailian creates a pocket for the implant. This pocket will be slightly larger than the implant size. This is because the implant should have some space to move around, which contributes to a natural look and feel. Once the pocket is created, Dr. Esmailian inserts the implant using a device called a Keller Funnel, which minimizes friction and strain between the implant and the incision, lending further safety to the procedure.
At this point, Dr. Esmailian will close the breast tissue leading to the pocket as well as the outer incision. He does this using precise suture techniques to minimize scarring. Once this is done, the breast augmentation is complete.
AFTER BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY AT OUR ORANGE COUNTY SURGICAL CENTER
Immediately following your surgery, the first step is to relax in our recovery room. You can remain there until you are fully awake, at which point you will be released to go home. Transportation should be arranged beforehand, as you will not be permitted to drive for 24 hours following the surgery.
While Dr. Esmailian recommends waiting a full week before returning to work, some patients are able to do it in 5 or 6 days, provided the work does not require physical strain. The first week is also accompanied by a special supportive bra, and after this time it may be replaced by a sports bra. About two weeks after your breast implant surgery with Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Esmailian, you can resume wearing your normal bras and bikini tops.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, with nearly 300,000 augmentations performed in 2014, breast augmentation surgery remains at the top of the list for cosmetic surgical procedures; 23 percent of these procedures were completed using saline implants and 77 percent using silicone implants.
REASONS WOMEN IN ORANGE COUNTY CHOOSE TO HAVE A BREAST AUGMENTATION
Because breast augmentation is an extremely personal procedure, a woman should choose to have the procedure for her own personal reasons and not for someone else. Women who are unhappy with the way their breasts look may decide to have a breast augmentation to:
- Improve their self-confidence
- Make their breasts fuller and increase their projection
- Enhance their self-image
- Improve the proportions of their body to balance their figure
- Reconstruct their breasts following an injury or mastectomy
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY
A woman is a good candidate for breast augmentation who:
- Is unhappy with the volume, size and/or shape of her breasts.
- Has a realistic expectation as to what an augmentation can do for her.
- Is physically healthy and does not have any major medical problems.
- Has breasts that appear asymmetrical either in shape or volume and would like to obtain better symmetry.
- Is unhappy because the upper parts of her breasts appear empty and would like to augment the upper pole to obtain more fullness.
- Has one or both of her breasts did not develop properly.
- Is done developing and has no longer experience any further growth in her breasts.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR BREAST AUGMENTATION CONSULTATION IN ORANGE COUNTY
Dr. Esmailian will take as much time as necessary to discuss any questions or concerns you have about the surgery during your initial consultation. He will outline a detained and personalized plan during the visit and discuss all your implant options: saline vs silicone, anatomic vs round, smooth vs textured. Some things you should be prepared to answer during your visit include:
1. The reasons you would like to have a breast augmentation, expectations and desired outcome.
2. Any current medical conditions and previous medical treatments you have had.
3. Bring a list of your current medications, herbal supplements and vitamins with you.
4. Get the results of previous mammograms or biopsies you have had and bring these with you to your breast augmentation consultation.
5. If you have a family history of breast cancer, be sure to let Dr. Esmailian know.
THE BREAST AUGMENTATION CONSULTATION: INITIAL EXAMINATION
During your augmentation consultation with Dr. Esmailian at his Orange County office, he will evaluate your general health. Dr. Esmailian will also discuss pre-existing health conditions and/or risk factors with you at this time.
Dr. Esmailian will want to examine and measure your breasts during the consultation. He will take detailed measurements of their size and shape as well as address skin quality, and nipple and areola placement.
Photographs are usually taken during your preop visit, as the breast implant sizing takes place then as well. A great deal of time is spent during the preoperative visit to make certain that you make the right decision about your implant size. Dr. Esmailian will guide you through this process and make certain that you go down the right path.
THE BREAST AUGMENTATION CONSULTATION: DISCUSSING YOUR OPTIONS
Once Dr. Esmailian completes his initial examination, he will discuss your options and give a recommendation as to the course of treatment he can offer at his Los Alamitos office. Patients are always welcome to return for a second consultation or call the office if they come up with any questions that they may have overlooked during the initial consultation.
3 COMMON QUESTIONS PATIENTS ASK DURING THEIR BREAST AUGMENTATION CONSULTATION WITH DR. ESMAILIAN
1. Is breastfeeding possible following a breast augmentation?
Yes, an augmentation will not affect your ability to breastfeed; however, women should wait at least 6 months after their breast augmentation procedure to become pregnant. The incision type, periareolar vs inframammary, usually does not make a difference in a woman’s ability to be able to breast feed after this procedure.
2. Will my breast and/or nipple sensation change after a breast augmentation?
Typically not and the percentages are likely less than 5%. Those women who do experience changes may have complete return of sensation but at times this may take 1 year. Incision type, periareolar vs inframammary, does not change the risk of loss of nipple sensation. Large implant does increase the risk of nipple/areola loss of sensation.
3. How long does it take to see the results of a breast augmentation?
The good news is that the results of your breast augmentation will be visible immediately following your procedure. However, it does take some time for the breasts to take shape and form. It will generally take 4 months before the implants have settled and the final result is achieved.
SOME WOMEN CHOOSE TO HAVE A BREAST AUGMENTATION AND A LIFT
A breast augmentation at our surgical center in Orange County, in and of itself, cannot address severely drooping breasts; some women choose to have an augmentation to create fuller breasts and a breast lift to raise drooping breasts. Breast augmentation and a breast lift may be performed safely as a combination surgery, meaning can be performed at the same surgery. In very small percentage of cases, it may not be safe to perform both those procedures at the same time, therefore, the breast lift may be performed first and then breast implants place approximately 4 months later.
