Breast Lift – What type of Lift Do I Need?
Long Beach breast lift and augmentation expert, Dr. Farbod Esmailian explains the different types of breast lifts available and what to expect after a breast lift or mastopexy procedure.
A breast lift is most often necessary in patients who have gone through childbearing, and in particular have breast feed their babies. Also patients who have had massive weight loss either from bariatric surgery like the lap band or the gastric bypass and usual patients that require a lift. In small percentage of cases, a breast implant can provide a small lift and fill the deflated breast.
The types of Long Beach breast lift or mastopexy available include: the crescent mastopexy, circumareolar mastopexy, vertical (lollipop) lift, and the full mastopexy or anchor lift. Each lift listed provides certain improvements and need to be individualized accordingly. The crescent lift or mastopexy involved removing a crescent shaped area of skin and tissue just at the edge of the superior aspect of the areola. The areola is lifted and placed into the new position. This is a type of lift commonly used when also performing a long beach breast augmentation procedure. The crescent beast lift is reserved for patients who need a minimal lift and more commonly used to even out the level of the nipple and areola.
The circumareolar lift is the next step in the long beach breast lift armamentarium. It involves making the areola smaller and making an incision around the outside of the areola and removing the skin here and then closing the circle with a special suture that closes the skin in a purse string fashion. This mastopexy procedure is also used commonly with breast implants.
The vertical mastopexy or lollipop lift elevates the nipple and areola in addition to tightening and reshaping the skin envelope. This procedure can be used with or without a saline or silicone breast implant and provided a nicely shaped breast at the expense of having a scar down the middle of the breast just below the areola. This mastopexy also reduces the size of the areola.
Finally, the most powerfull Long Beach breast lift is the anchor breast lift or the full mastopexy. This is the most versatile of the breast lifts and can elevated the nipple and areola complex to any desirable height. The list does also reduce the areola size and reshape the breast envelope. It does require incision on the breast like the vertical or lollipop lift but also there is an additional incision along the breast crease. This procedure can be performed with or without a breast implant.
