When it comes to Orange County breast implants a choice has to be made whether to use saline or silicone implants. The ânewâ silicone implants are much improved over the silicone breast implants used many years ago. Both saline and silicone implants use a shell that is made of silicone. It is what is inside that is different. Saline implants contain a salt water solution that is similar to what our body contains. The silicone implant is made of silicone polymers that are cohesive. These implants donât âleakâ as the older silicone implants do if there is a break in the shell. Therefore, they have less tendency to creep into the tissues.
There are advantages and disadvantages of each. Silicone implants feel more analogous to breast tissue than saline implants. They also tend to have less rippling than saline implants. However, silicone implants come prefilled, therefore a larger incision has to be made, especially for larger implants, to place the silicone implants into the body. Since they come prefilled, it is somewhat more difficult to adjust for breast asymmetry when using silicone implants. Saline implants have the advantage of being filled once placed into the body therefore a smaller incision can be made and more freedom for adjusting the volume placed.
