For women concerned with the outward appearance of their genitalia, labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce the amount of excess tissue in the vaginal area. This can apply to the inner tissue, known as the labia minora, or the outter tissue, known as the labia majora. While this condition can develop following pregnancy, it can also be inherent or gene-related.

Women with excessive tissue in the labia can experience a number of physical and psychological problems. It can cause significant discomfort and irritation during physical activity, such as jogging. It may also cause discomfort during sexual intercourse. Additionally, the appearance of excessive tissue in the labia may cause introversion. Labial reduction, otherwise known as a labiaplasty, is the perfect solution for women experiencing any of the above. For patients in Orange County seeking labial reduction, Dr. Esmailian offers precision skill to give you the results you deserve.

PROCEDURE

Because labiaplasty is restricted to a small portion of the body, it is usually performed under local anesthesia, with the patient awake. It may be done using general anesthetic when it is combined with other, more comprehensive cosmetic procedures.

Once anesthetic is applied, Dr. Esmailian can address any excess tissue in the labia. Both the labia majora and labia minora are treated and reduced according to a previous discussion between you and Dr. Esmailian. He will leave enough tissue in the labia minora to ensure the vaginal opening is closed while the patient is standing.

A labiaplasty is not very invasive, and the recovery period is minimal. Sexual intercourse can resume within one month following labiaplasty, and sometimes sooner depending upon how much tissue was excised. Initial swelling will decrease within the first weeks following the procedure.

Dr. Esmailian’s patients are happy with the results of labiaplasty. They routinely report significant improvement in confidence and sexual sensation, as well as a decrease in introversion associated with their labia. Please call us to find out more about labial reduction.
